A remake of the 1957 film, 3:10 to Yuma tells the story of rancher Dan Evans(Christian Bale), a disabled vet of the Civil War, whom volunteers to escort the notorious outlaw, Ben Wade(Russell Crowe), to the 3:10 train headed to Yuma. Wade's loyal posse is in hot pursuit of the escort, making the trip to the train station more dangerous by the minute.
After the trailers and commercials for this film, you may think you have the story figured out, and you are probably right. However, the story is much deeper than a criminal being taken to justice. No, the real story is about how far a father will go to earn the respect of his son and it creates a very interesting aspect to the film, an aspect you will be thinking about long after the credits roll.
Russel Crowe gives a great performance as the sly and cunning Ben Wade. You like this guy, even though he's a killer and you see why this task is so dangerous. Christian Bale also gives a outstanding performance as the desperate for cash farmer, Dan Evans. The interaction between both of these characters are just as gripping as the gunfights throughout the film.
Speaking of gunfights, there are a quite a few in the film and while they are not the over the top actions scenes we've become accustomed to this summer, they fit the western theme nicely.
3:10 to Yuma is an excellent western and should not be missed. I highly recommend it.
