Ocean's 13

June 9th, 2007 by Brent

Ocean's 13 is a return to form after the misstep that was Ocean's 12. Director Steven Soderbergh is able to recapture the feel and excitement of the heist that we all loved from the first film. While it does have some unbelievable moments, even more so then the first film, it's enjoyable to see the lengths to which this guys will go to get the job done as well as their creativity.

The movie opens with the gang reunited in Vegas because one of their own has been hurt by greedy casino owner, Willie Bank (Al Pacino), and they want revenge. They plan to ruin the grand opening of Bank's new casino by rigging all the games in their favor as well as making sure Bank's doesn't win the coveted 5 diamond casino award.

The best part about the Ocean flicks isn't the heist though. Don't get me wrong, the heist is a big part of what makes it great, but the characters are what I really love and they are as great as ever. Each member of the gang has their moment to shine and besides the regular standouts of Clooney, Pitt, and Damon, Don Cheadle and Casey Affleck provide some of the best moments in the film.

Is it a perfect film? Not exactly. There are times where I thought the plot was a little over the top and sometimes a bit sloppy. However, it provides so many opportunities for these characters to have fun, that we don't care, because we get to have fun right along with them and that is what a summer movie is all about, kicking back and having a good time.

Finally a third installment this summer gets that idea right.

Quick Review
Plot/Storyline
The gang heads back to vegas for a revenge heist. A little over the top in terms of plot, but it's a fun and entertaining ride.

Acting/Characters
Great characters, a great cast, and, for the most part, each one is given their moment to shine.

Visuals/Sound
Great style and camera work. I love the music used in the previous Ocean flicks and it's no different here.
