Knocked Up

June 2nd, 2007 by Brent

Knocked Up tells the story of E! news journalist Alison Scott whom engages in a one night stand with a pot smoking slacker, Ben Stone, that results in her becoming pregnant. Alison, after making the decision to keep the baby, decides to make an effort to form a relationship with Ben. Meanwhile, Ben is faced with the idea of becoming a father and forced to reexamine the way he is living his life.

As he did with 40 Year Old Virgin, director Judd Apatow, combines lewd humor, drugs, language, etc. with lovable characters and a touching story in a strange concoction that is, ultimately, very real. Some may be turned off because of the juvenile humor and the actions of some characters. However, having known people similar to Ben and Alison, I appreciate the willingness to explore a situation such as this.

Although Knocked Up runs a bit too long and becomes more serious during the finale, it still manages to keep the laughs coming. If you were a fan of 40 Year Old Virgin, you will not be disappointed in this hilarious follow-up.

Quick Review
Plot/Storyline
Simple story-line that we have seen before in similar comedies, but it manages to be outrageously funny, touching and relatable.
