First and foremost, I want to say that this is the best movie I have ever witnessed in the theater. The grand scale of calling this movie epic, does not come anywhere near close to the justice that this movie demands. For anyone who does not get the chance to see it in the theater, consider the experience for yourself lost for eternity (or until they have another showing at a theater again). This movie commands the enormous picture and sound quality that to few movies do today.
Well now that you know how I feel let me give you the gist of the movie. 300 Spartans versus over a million of the Persian army. There you go summed up into one neat statement, that I am sure that you have heard on the countless previews being shown. But what is left out of the lacking tag-line, is the devotion that this group of soldiers has for their leader (King Ledonias (yeah I probably spelled it wrong, if you care then go read a book)), their country, and their freedom and that is just what they are fighting for.
This movie will inspire and graphically blow your mind. There will not be a movie with such style and filmed with such grace and care to each scene as this movie, in a very long time. For the woman out there who believe that this might just be a guy movie, let me reassure you of a few things, it is gory no doubt, your guy will love it (if he doesn't you might want him to reevaluate his sexual identity), if you want to know the kind of devotion that a husband and wife should have for each other, this will rock you to your core and in doing so will hopefully open your eyes to the wonderful story this movie entertains you with throughout it's entirety.
Bottom line: see this movie, you will regret it for a very long time if you do not. Also as a side-note, I just finished seeing the movie an hour ago, I would have stayed in my seat if they would have let me, to see the whole thing again.

|---|---|
Plot/Storyline Some people will say it is just about killing. I believe they deliever just enough of a story and character development that you care for each Spartan equally as they fall.

Acting/Characters Each Spartan is chiseled beyond belief and looks fit to be one of the best warriors to roam the earch. The humor added into the movie is appropriate and refreshing for a movie such as this.

Visuals/Sound This is the best, you will see no better you will hear no better. You will believe you are on the battlefield observing the Spartan terror being laid before you.

Replay No question, day number one release on DVD will buy. And as you saw at the end of the review, I will see it again in theaters, the only question is how many times.

Good review. I found it quite entertaining. "best movie I have ever witnessed in the theater..." is it better than Jaws? If so, you need to update your top ten.

I have to admit that I think you both rated 300 a bit too high. The visuals were awesome. The sound was spectacular (in fact, I think the soundtrack was better than the movie, and I might just have to buy the CD instead of the DVD). And the type and use of comedy was good. But every single powerful quote from the movie was in the previews. And the way the previews were cut with the sound clips was better than the way the sound clips fell within the movie itself. I never felt close to any of the Spartans except for Leonidas so I have to disagree with feeling sadness or emotion when most of them fell. Anyway, I think I went into it with my expectations too high, and I definitely can't put it in my top 10 of all time. I probably wouldn't even put it in my top 5 epic movies of all time. MAYBE top 10 epic movies. Anyway, thought I'd post a comment against the grain for a different point of view.

I will admit that I almost thought I was rating it too high as well. This was because it lacked character development and it had a simple plot, but then I though about how I couldn't help but smile the entire time I watch it. It entertained me. So, in my review, I give it lower scores where deserved, like plot and characters, which may have not been fleshed out, but were decent. But for style and overall enjoyment, it had everything I could ask for for a Friday night flick.
And I mean, let's be honest, I don't think anyone was going in expecting some deep storyline. We wanted to see battles and fights and 300 gives you heaps of that.

I agree that I wasn't necessarily expecting plot, but even the other epic movies that I have in mind (Gladiator, Braveheart, Glory, etc...all with lots of blood and lots of fighting) take the time to develop the characters, don't give away every quotable line in the original previews, and aren't overloaded with stupidly unnecessary sex/nudity. One of my favorite parts of epic movies are the quotes that send chills up your spine and fire you up. All I'm saying is that the previews may have given me more chills and pumped me up more than the actual movie.

First off, it's good to have you back! Secondly, while I think you rated it a bit too high, I too think 300 was awesome, definitely one of the coolest and most stylized films in a while.
