300

March 9th, 2007 by Brent

300 is adaptation of Frank Millers graphic novel about the 300 Spartan soldiers who, led by King Leonidas, fight to the death against Xerxes and the enourmous Persian army. And that's it for the plot, because after about twenty minutes the film becomes one bloody and violent battle that is done with so much style, you can't help but smile.

The film opens with a young baby boy under inspection. If suitable, he will become a Spartan, one of the worlds best soldiers. Trained to fight from birth, Spartans are prepared to defend and die for Sparta.

And defend they do. After refusing Xerxes request for surrender and without the support from the politcal leaders in Sparta, King Leonidas takes 300 Spartans soldiers to defend the narrow pass through the mountains. It's here, that they make their stand and the bloodbath begins as they slaughter Persian advances again and again.

Director Zack Snyder creates an almost dreamlike world with vibrant colors and great action. Rock music blares over battles, and the film slows to show us every spear that is thrown and every limb lost. There is yelling, muscles, swords, fighting, boobs, blood, and everything else that makes for your typical tough guy action flick.

That is exactly what 300 is, just a balls to the wall action flick. There is no character development here, no intricate storyline, just awesomeness.

Quick Review
Plot/Storyline
The plot is pretty thin, 300 Spartans fight millions of Persians. I, however, love it.

Acting/Characters
Not much in the way of character development. Although a solid performance from everyone, especially Gerald Butler as King Leonidas.

Visuals/Sound
A beautiful and unique style that will give your eyes an orgasm.
