The Illusionist

January 15th, 2007 by Sam

Do you like magic? Of course you do, and if you said no you're probably going to hell because your lying. Seriously though, The Illusionist was recently released on DVD and although you will get your magic show in the movie, it also has an underlying love story (good for the ladies gents). What I find interesting about this movie is a few things. First it was released around the same time as The Prestige, plus the both are about magic, and lastly both the titles two words long. Okay the two word titles are kind of stretching it, but strange the release was so close together.

Back to The Illusionist though, this movie has first rate acting, special effects, but for myself lacks in the story end in originality. Now some may say it is original but come on, boy loves girl at young age but can't be with, boy grows up and finds girl to be with again, bad guy keeping them from being together, everyone ends up happy at the end, except bad guy, if that sounds familiar guess what the movie's plot is not original they just threw in some hocus pocus. I even enjoyed this movie but I do have to be objective and my mind is a little more comprehensive than some.

So guys wanting to impress their girlfriend/wives, pick this movie up. You will get to see Edward Norton and Paul Giamatti at their best, plus some nice CG (if you don't know what that stands for, you are not a guy), and then your lady will also think you are sensitive because of the underlying love story double bonus. Next thing you know....

Quick Review
Plot/Storyline
If you saw the review, basic plot, you will be happy though. What movie doesn't have a basic plot now a days. They are all just executed differently.

Acting/Characters
Fantastic, I don't even think Edward Norton can act and I think he pulled it off. Top notch.
9.5
Visuals/Sound
Could not be anymore convincing with it's special effects, Norton also actually makes it look like he is doing the trick.
9
Replay
A movie that could be viewed by all without worries for confusion or content.

Joe Giamatti? Isn't it Paul?
