I remember when I was a kid and "grown up" movies always seemed to be boring until about halfway through the movie. That is when the climax started building up and the excitement of everything was piling up and it became fun. Stranger than Fiction is this type of movie, but a few things have changed. One, I am a adult now and have come to enjoy movies that I once found dull at the beginning, and two I usually expect to like a movie from beginning to end.
Stranger than Fiction takes a boring character, Will Ferrell, and leaves him that way. They do not try to improve on the mundane act of living a boring characters life in any way shape or form. The movie I believe actually wants you to be bored. They do in one the most unique ways that I have seen in a film in a long time. First of all they take a actor Will Ferrell usually known for his crazy acting skills and numb him down to his core. Which Will Ferrell does an excellent job of being normal. Secondly, they then add a whole bunch of possible catalysts that any normal person would react to in outrageous ways, but they do not go down that path, they resist. I was actually yawning until the second half of the movie.
Then when you believe that the movie is doomed (which I actually thought it might be). The revelation that main character is going to die, sets in motion a series of events and questions that rampage you and lead to various socialization's the character may have never had. This movie does make you question ideas like predestination and is knowing to much good for the person. Yet, it is all wrapped up neatly at the end in a lighthearted still nothing spectacular way, that makes you wish that more people in the world would simply slow down and focus on all the wonderful things life has to offer you.
p.s. Photo at top of screen, not actual photo from movie. Photo taken from hilarous cowbell skit from Saturday Night Live, and if you have not seen it you had better check it out fool!
p.p.s If you do see this flick see if you can catch the cameo by the Sonic guys. I knew it was only going to be anytime now, and all I can say is it wasn't soon enough.

|---|---|
Plot/Storyline Strong plot even though it is slow to start.

Acting/Characters Will Ferrell pulls out some gold nuggets I think we all had no idea he had. Plus the rest of the cast all seem to have little mannerisms that make them peculair but hilarous.

Visuals/Sound Plain and boring, but I believe this is the way it was meant to be.

Replay I would be curious to see DVD extras, to see how many times Ferrell broke character, because man in the movie, he was a stone.
