Sci-fi writers I have to hand it to them. They have the difficult job of coming up with the most bizarre scenarios and trying to pawn them off on others as original ideas. How many clones of aliens taking over the world can there be. Not only that but I am sure that most of them have never even seen a woman naked (assuming they are mostly male, because well guys are weird anyways) and they may never. Plus the ideas that do come out that are original are not very good. Watch the sci-fi channel for two seconds and not only will you think; man I am glad I don't write sci-fi, but also how in the world are there actually movies out there being made for TV about people turning into crocodiles. Craziness. But still there are devout followers of shows on this channel which I will refer to as basies (because they probably live in there mom's basement still and play D&D with there pretend friends on the weekend, sad).
Well one of those shows was known as Firefly, which personally I never watched, but eventually there was a movie released about this show known as Serenity. I went to see this movie not expecting much and was blown off my freaking seat. Not only does this movie deliver a semi-original story line, but it has characters that individually feel real and have a purpose that makes the story all the much better to watch and enjoy.
Serenity is about a band of rogues who survive by basically doing the good all robber thing futuristic style. A diverse group of people living on a ship together, with each one mostly watching out for themselves. Along the way the pick up a shipmates sister and then all hell breaks loose. Apparently this girl is special and everyone and there momma wants her back or for their own use. Cue action rock music and some totally freaking awesome fight scenes, not only on the ground but in space as well (of course it's sci-fi). Ends up a lot more is going on than expected from the beginning and some major crap has to go down to fix it. Also, the man sent to chase after the girl is one of the baddest mofo's I have ever seen portrayed on the screen. Forget Hannibal Lector, forget good old Darthie this guy actually has a line when talking to the man who hired him that plays out sort of like this: "I just want you to get the girl back, I am not the type of guy who kills women and children" super bad mofo replies "well, I am." Freaking awesome, this is the kind of guy you would like to show up when you want a job done.
Regardless, I have to hand it to the director Joss Whedon and the writers of the script. You delivered an excellent piece of work, each character is well fleshed out. For those who watch the movie, enjoy you are in for a treat.

I just recently watch Firefly, the show the film is based on and then Serenity again and man, I loved it. I'm so bummed that the show was canceled but it did give us an awesome movie. So, I happily take back my previous comment, I must have been in a bad mood when I originally watched it, because I loved it the second time.
And I don't mean to nitpick, but your quote is wrong. It is not the guy who wants the girl back who says that. It's Mal, the captain, but he doesn't say he wants the girl, he just says he doesn't kill children.

I thought the movie was good, but there was something that kept me from really getting into it. I liked all the characters except the lead, but maybe I need to watch it again and give him another chance.
I do agree about the bad guy though, he was awesome.
